Letter from the Program Director
As a career medical educator, there is simply nothing more exciting than being a part of a brand new residency program that is not only the amalgamation of the most innovative and progressive of medical educational curriculums, but, as well, is sponsored by one of the finest medical schools in the country, the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Under this umbrella, our future residents will have access to two outstanding medical teaching staffs, recognized not only for their clinical skills, but also for their absolute commitment to teaching. House staff will have the opportunity to train at both JFK Medical Center, the largest tertiary/quaternary care hospital in Palm Beach County continually recognized for it's excellence in care and unmatched working environment, and the West Palm Beach Veterans Affairs Hospital, one of the most highly regarded VA hospitals in the country.
The mission of our program is simple. Incorporating the latest educational requirements of the ACGME and the Internal Medicine RRC, we have created an IM program rich in its diversity of training, educational innovations, and intense faculty involvement resulting in extensive one on one learning opportunities. Residents will not take any overnight call, yet they will have the opportunity to be exposed to all the clinical situations necessary to become a successful 21st century internist. They will gain experience in such important areas as end of life care and pain management, quality assurance and performance improvement, clinical and outcomes research, utilization review, and home care. Residents will be exposed to an extensive and varied outpatient environment in both the medical and surgical arenas as well as rotating through the traditional inpatient core rotations and subspecialty electives, necessary for them to become outstanding internists or continue on to train in any subspecialty that they desire.
Our medical faculty has years of teaching experience in both the undergraduate and post graduate academic worlds. They have undergone extensive faculty training to be certain that they can excel, especially given today's high educational expectations from trainees. Residents will also have access to a state of the art simulation center at the University Of Miami Miller School Of Medicine's regional campus. As the first allopathic residency program in Palm Beach County, there is great sense of anticipation and eagerness from everyone associated with the teaching hospitals as well as the community at large.
I am truly privileged to be associated with this wonderful internal medicine teaching program, and am confident that you will be making a wonderful decision by considering becoming one of our future graduates. I look forward to meeting you in person.
Sincerely yours,
Charles Posternack MD, FACP, FRCPCProgram Director
